“The Cup of Our Life”is the theme of the 2012 Women’s Retreat at PCOL. Cups are common containers that we use every day. We fill them with liquids that can be hot or cold, bitter or sweet, full of nourishment or calorie-free. We fill our cups to the brim, halfway, or near empty. We wash our cups often and repair them when needed. These things make an ordinary cup a powerful symbol of our life with God. Our spiritual lives are a constant process of emptying and filling, sharing and receiving, tending and strengthening. Come explore how God’s love and grace fill and renew us!

What to Bring: A favorite cup from home (one that is special in some way), casual clothing and a willingness to sing, laugh, eat, share and relax. We also encourage you to bring handiwork, snacks and games.

About the Venue: St. Joseph’s is a relaxing retreat center on the Jersey Shore. There is ample free time during the retreat for rest, relaxation and fellowship.

Dates and Times: The retreat begins on Friday, March 16 with dinner en-route to the retreat center. Meal service begins on Saturday breakfast. We will depart on Sunday morning.

Cost and Registration: The retreat costs $210 which covers lodging, food and retreat materials.

Pastor Luc Deratus was with us in worship on February 5th to kick off Haiti Mission Month, when we raise money for food and medicine for Harmonie Ministries, and to provide tuition for students attending its school If you missed our Haiti Sunday, but still wish to support our Haiti Ministry with your contribution, you can now give online; the online giving form is at the bottom of this page. Contributions may also be made at a table in the Fellowship following Sunday worship.

There are two areas in which all church members can participate in our Haiti ministry. The first, and most urgent, is the Haiti General Fund. The money from the Haiti General Fund is used to purchase beans, rice and oil for the food pantry at Harmony Ministries. You may also choose to sponsor a student in one of Pastor Luc’s schools. In the past we have been able to sponsor over 200 students. A contribution of $50 covers expenses for one student for a year at school.

To donate, please fill out the form below. You may Sponsor a Student or donate toward the General Offering (or both). Simply note the amount you’d like to contribute in the appropriate field. Once you submit the form, you will be directed to a PayPal account. After submitting your information in PayPal you should receive a confirmation email from PCOL and from PayPal.

To read T. S. Eliot’s Four Quartets is to meditate on the great themes of God’s relationship to humans; the philosophy of time; the nature of redemption; and the nature of poetry itself. It is a poetic meditation that weaves motifs of other great thinkers and writers, such as Dante, Julian of Norwich, St. John of the Cross, the Bhagavad Gita and pre-Socratic philosophy. Those who engage in the study of this poem, Eliot’s magnum opus, rarely are left unchanged. To study it is itself a spiritual journey. We will take four weeks, one for each section of Four Quartets, to study and savor—and meditate with—this great poem.
