WORSHIP IN A NEW KEY

09/15/2009

Experience the Spirit.
No jacket required.

Our 5:00pm Worship in a New Key is a new feature of our worship life that began in the fall of 2008, and meets on the 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month October through May. The New Key service features acoustic music from a variety of styles--jazz, world, folk, acoustic rock, and even traditional hymn styles. This service attracts people of all ages who want a less formal, and more experiential worship service that is out of the box, but still conforms to the traditional order of Reformed worship.

Worship and Supper, beginning at 5pm. People gather for the service at 5pm, with acoustic music and gathering songs, and ends with Eucharist (Communion). The service morphs into table fellowship: a simple meal together (usually soup and bread). The service is in our Fellowship Center, a less formal and more flexible place to worship.

An ensemble led by our musically talented Youth and Young Adult Ministries director, Rich Richards, provides upbeat, toe-tapping musical accompaniment for the service.

What Happens Here?

Here’s the kind of place we seek to create through Worship in a New Key:

This is a place of welcome. Whoever you are, wherever you are, come as you are. We hope this is a rest from the dusty road of life, where you’ll find refreshment. And because Christ has welcomed us, each one here has the joyful job of hospitality: welcoming strangers, sharing lives, extending the joy of real community.

This is a place where we experience faith. Talk is important, but it’s the point where talk intersects with real experience that we meet the living Christ. We hear, feel, sing, taste and smell the holiness of God in this place--through music, poetry, stories, food: sharing good news by any means necessary.

This is a place where people leave as missionaries. Here, we are washed, fed...and sent. You might think of our worship as training for missionaries--not the old-fashioned kind; the quiet kind who take the message of hope with them and share it. Like St. Francis of Assisi, we preach the gospel everywhere, and use words only when we have to.
