Volunteer for the NAMI Mercer Helpline

NAMI Mercer, a robust, independently operating affiliate of The National Alliance on Mental Illness located in Hamilton, NJ is seeking volunteers to help staff our Helpline, a resource warmline for families and individuals who are coping with mental health challenges. The Helpline is staffed Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 4:30pm and most Helpline specialists cover at least a four-hour time slot. Helpline volunteers are not serving as counselors or case managers but rather as navigators, providing a listening ear and pointing people in the direction of needed support and services. Since there is not a steady stream of inquiries daily,

Helpline volunteers may also assist with other administrative tasks.

The skills required for this volunteer opportunity include: compassionate listening, computer literacy

(Microsoft Office), a willingness to learn resources in Mercer County, a collaborative spirit, and a desire to help others. Having lived experience related to navigating one’s own mental health or that of a family member or friend is a huge plus. If you are interested, please email, Dawn Dannenbrinkddannenbrink@namimercer.org with Helpline Volunteer in the subject line.
