An update from the Vision and Vitality Team

On June 28, approximately one hundred PCOL members attended the annual Congregational Meeting. After Jeff Vamos moderated a brisk review of reports from the various church boards and committees, V&V Team chair Graham Cole reported on the year’s progress toward envisioning new, sustainable forms of mission and ministry for PCOL’s future. As the Congregational Meeting wound down, most members stayed to share in small groups their ideas and questions within the five “idea clusters” that the congregation has identified this year:

  • After School/Tutoring Services
  • Community/Wellness Center
  • “Higher Power”: Solar Energy Evangelism
  • Retail Business/Job Training
  • “WeGo”: Transportation Services for emergencies and other local needs

At its May meeting, the Session asked the Team to take a closer look at each of these five idea clusters, working with interested members of the congregation to develop one or more basic “business plans” within the cluster for Session review in October. About fifty interested members have already signed up to help with planning and/or potential implementation in one or another of these idea clusters. If you haven’t yet done so and are willing to help with this important process, please contact the church office or sign up online at https://pclawrenceville.org/ideateams/. If you have general questions or concerns, contact any member of the Team: Graham Cole, Tracey Gates, Loraine Huchler, Dick Knight, Rich McLaughlin, Karen Stauning, Jeff Vamos, Tim Vaughn or Tom Wilfrid.

It is worth noting that the Team and the Session do not see the present “Days of Creation” process as a one-time, temporary thing. Rather, we are hoping this will evolve into an ongoing process of creative openness to new, sustainable forms of mission and ministry that have the potential to engage and nourish current and future members and non-members through “faith in action.” We are convinced that such a process will be essential for the long-term vitality of PCOL.
