Prepare for Pentecost by…baking bread.
On Pentecost, we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit and the birth of the Church. We mark this occasion with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper–a reminder that the Holy Spirit gathers the whole Church as the body of Christ and sends us to share in Christ’s mission throughout the world. Since we are not able to celebrate Communion in person, we invite you to do the next best thing: prepare a loaf of bread at home.
You are not limited to a specific recipe, the options are endless: Have a sourdough starter? Make sourdough! Missing yeast? Make muffins or scones! Have a sweet tooth? Make cookies! Don’t want to go shopping? Use whatever ingredients you have or just grab a sleeve of crackers or a handful of goldfish!
It doesn’t have to be perfect. We trust that God will show up anyway.
The point of this exercise is to be intentional with your preparation, to put your hands to work, and to allow your preparation process to be a prayer and an extension of the sacrament, itself.
So get baking… or gathering… or whatever! And make sure to involve your whole family in this process. Join us on Sunday, May 31 at 10:00a for our Pentecost worship service and make sure to have your baked item(s) and some liquid (water, juice, coffee, etc.) ready so that we can share in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper together.
FOR THOSE OF YOU BAKING, use this blessing before placing your baked item in the oven.
