For Ash Wednesday, worshippers and neighbors have a variety of ways to practice their faith. For an hour in the morning and an hour at lunchtime, persons can drop in at the narthex (the lobby of the Meetinghouse), for a brief bestowal of ashes. Park on 206 and come on in. The bestowal of ashes consists of a brief explanation of Ash Wednesday, a prayer, and the act of marking your forehead or wrist with the sign of the cross, using the ashes from the previous Palm Sunday palms. The ritual takes about 3 minutes.
In the evening, we will have our usual Ash Wednesday worship service, led by our Junior High youth, for about a half hour. This service also includes the option to receive the bestowal of ashes.
