A load-bearing wall is integral to the structure of a home. The problem is, in our effort to create open space in our homes, load-bearing walls become dividing walls. This is true in our world as well. We often construct walls––literal and figural––to keep out those who are different from us and keep those who are like us close. We find comfort in constructing these diving walls. So much so, that we convince ourselves they are load-bearing, that is, they are necessary for the church to be the church.
But perhaps there is another way, when it comes to the church.
