The standard disclaimer for various mutual fund advertisements: “Past performance does not guarantee future results.” But spiritually–and psychologically–our past experiences are highly determinative of our future ones; they condition our choices. In this sermon, Dr. Vamos explores the theory of “learned helplessness:” how past experiences can make us feel helpless over our circumstances. But if we can learn helplessness, can we not also learn hope? And if so, how then do we “practice” hope?
