Jesus commanded his followers, “Love one another as I have loved you.” When we find ourselves in situations where this commandment is easier said than done, our Christian faith spurs us to see God in everyone and respond accordingly. Although we are busy with the self-imposed priorities in our own life, we find that prioritizing the needs of others, including the needs of our planet, helps us to live God’s commandments. Once we start acting for
others, it does not become a hardship to promote the rights of others or perform acts of stewardship to preserve our planet.
We can show our love for one another as commanded by Jesus Christ by assisting at local food shelters, rebuilding homes lost through natural disasters or advocating for persons incarcerated without due process. Through these small, local measures we can contribute to a more peaceful and just world – a place where the will of God is done on earth as it is in heaven.
