“Hier stehe ich. Ich kann nicht anders. Gott helfe mir.  Amen” (Here I stand; I can do no other. God help me; Amen)    – Luther at the Diet of Worms, 1521)

Martin Luther was not your average medieval monk.  Though extremely devout, he lived in constant terror that he was beyond salvation.  How could he ever merit God’s love and approval?  He could not!  What then?

He found hope at last in the epistles of St Paul, particularly Romans 1: 16-17: “The righteous shall live by faith.”   His faith led him to defy the Pope and the Emperor, for he saw salvation was by “faith alone.” Upon this the Church must stand or fall.

A revolution, the Reformation, had begun.  Join us as we explore the road that led Luther to conclude “Glaubst du, so hast du” (“Believe It, and You Have It.”  )

“For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” – Ephesians 2:8
