Join us for a joyous celebration of the Christmas story with special brass and choral music
On Sunday, December 18 at the 10 am, we will have a service of lessons and carols, featuring the music of James Whitbourn.
The main choral work for the service – “Missa Carolae” by James Whitbourn was commissioned for Rochester Cathedral (England), and first performed there on 24 December 2004. The work uses the Ordinary sections of the Mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Sanctus, Benedictus and Agnus Dei) setting those texts to familiar Christmas melodies/carols. The tune name, and origin, for each movement is listed with the translations. Dr. Whitbourn has visited with us here at the Presbyterian Church of Lawrenceville, and the choir has performed several other of his compositions including “The Wounds”, “Son of God Mass” and “Give Us the Wings of Faith” among others.
The choir is made up of combined singers from the Lawrenceville Community Chorus, and members of the Pennsbury High School Chamber Choir.
Our 11:30 Alternative Service will feature a Carol Sing
For worshippers wanting a full-dose of Advent and Christmas carol singing, our 11:30 service that day will feature a carol sing. Sing along with some of the most familiar songs to get into the spirit of the season.
